Maureen Hamill:
2017 Recipient of the Jacob Klein Leader of Distinction Award
Bridgeport native Maureen Hamill’s contribution to our community now spans generations. A founding member of the Downtown Cabaret Theatre, she’s produced and performed around the country, yet we are lucky enough to share her gifts here at The Klein, Fairfield Theater Company, and most recently singing with the Bridgeport Symphony. Maureen has sold out shows at the best cabarets in New York City and at the iconic Tavern on the Green. Her “Hamill Productions” credits include Fortune 500 companies, international equestrian events and entertainment for numerous non-profit organizations.
Maureen is a true theater professional – a performer, producer and director. But she gives even more as an educator, teaching theater arts to kids in the Bridgeport community and beyond. For the past 25 years she has taught and produced her Summer Cabaret Workshop, held first at Sacred Heart University and now at Fairfield Theater Company. There, and as the Director of Education at the Klein, Maureen teaches more than performance - she develops team-work and problem solving abilities and nurtures communication skills and perseverance that helps form confident, productive young adults.
She has enriched thousands of lives, and for this we honor her as a leader of distinction.
The Jacob Klein Leader of Distinction Award
In 2013 the board of directors of the Klein Memorial Auditorium Foundation established the Jacob Klein Leader of Distinction Award. It is given annually to recognize a business and/or civic leader whose contributions to the greater Bridgeport region enrich the community. The first recipients were Nancy and Armando Goncalves, an educator and business leader whose professional and charitable efforts perfectly exemplify the Klein’s mission to “enrich, educate and entertain through arts and ideas.” In 2015 The Klein honored eight members of Bridgeport’s prominent Carroll family for their vast history of public service. Real estate developer and philanthropist Robert D. Scinto was the 2016 honoree, and he received his award at a gala whose entertainment was a cabaret show performed on the Klein stage by this year’s recipient, Maureen Hamill.
