After School at The Klein - ASK

ASK is The Klein's innovative after school arts education program, provided tuition free to Bridgeport students in grades 6 - 12. Students must provide their own transportation. With dedicated, professional instructors led by experienced theater arts educator Maureen Hamill, ASK students learn singing, dancing and improvisational acting. ASK runs 4 days each week for 19 weeks during the school year, from 3 - 6 PM after school, with one day devoted to students who are most interested in developing performance dance skills or learning technical stage production. It is widely recognized that arts education builds skills essential for success in school and beyond, including perseverance, problem-solving abilities and communication skills. ASK students share what they have learned with family and friends at a semester ending performance, open to the public. 

Our new stagecraft course is taught by professional union stagehands, who teach the basic skills of lighting, audio and set construction. The Klein also intends to seek opportunities to offer paid internships to at least 2 of the stagecraft students. 

The self-confidence acquired through ASK gives Bridgeport students the opporutnity to define and seek their own dreams.
